Different Modes in a router & Booting Sequence

Different Types of Modes in a router:
  1. User Mode à Router>
  2. Privilege Mode à Router#
  3. Global configuration Mode à Router(Config)#
  4. Interface Global configuration Mode/ Interface Mode à Router(config-if)#
  5. Line Mode à #Line Vty

   Line Modes:
   à Auxiliary mode
   à Console mode Vty - Used for Telnet & SSH


Here are the five passwords you can set on a Cisco router:
  • Console           : for login through console cable
  • Aux                 : For login through auxiliary port
  • VTY               : For remote login
  • Enable password : This is to enable to privilege mode (plain Text)
  • Enable Secret : (Encrypted text MD7)

   Features of router:
·         Carry network protocols and there functions
·         Connecting high-speed traffic between devices
·         Adding security to control access and prevent unauthorized access
·         Provide scalability for easy of growth
·         Supply network reliability for connected recourses.

Types of router:
1.      Fixed (non-modular)    - we can’t add new extra ports
2.      Modular    - we can add extra ports

Again two types they are a) Manageable                   - we can configure
              b) Non-manageable           -we can’t configure, only plug and play.

Booting Sequence in Router/ Switch:
The Register Values:
0x2100 – ROMMON Mode
0x2101 – Rx Boot
0x2102 – Normal bootup seq
